My deepest apologies for my long absence. Still trying to find my New York rhythm. It will come, but has eluded me in the last few weeks. There's a backlog of things to say and topics to write about. So to help me choose where to start, I'll ask for your feedback. Which of these things would you like to hear about first? And if you don't like any of the topics below, please feel free to suggest one of your own.
I could write about Dave Chappelle's Block Party and how I was there at the actual concert because it's on MY block and how I think it's such a fantastic movie that skillfully mixes the styles of comedic, concert, and documentary films. And I discovered that Common and I have something in common because he's from Chicago but now lives in Fort Greene/Clinton Hill somewhere. And p.s.: Turns out Biggie Smalls went to the daycare at the end of my block.
Or I could write about the realization of my lifelong dream to see Mark Ruffalo in person and how I hoped it would happen at Sundance in 2004 but instead it happened when my fabulously connected friend Angela scored two tix to see MF in the Broadway revival of Awake and Sing! by Clifford Odets at the Belasco Theatre and she took me with her.
Or I could write about the most interesting, inspiring, and funny book I'm almost done with about a woman who has had a headache for 15 years and counting. Believe me, it really is funny. And smart. And enlightening. I have many thoughts on this.
Or I could write about some recent SEEN/HEARD ON THE STREETS OF NYC, which will probably include a sighting of a new counter joint in my hood called F&C's, standing for Fish & Crustaceans.
Or I could write about the intersection of youth culture, theatre geeks, myspace.com, and Christianity, as experienced one night last week in Chelsea.
Or I could give you a preview of all the films I'm going to see in the next 3 weeks at two New York festivals, but now that I think about it you'd probably just rather hear about those after I've seen them. Because what if I blow some of them off, as I think I might, and then you really wanted to hear about that Iraq documentary but I blew it off so I can't tell you a damn thing about it?
Or we could talk about taxes and how I still haven't done mine yet, and how I have relied three years in a row on Form 4868 to get me past April 15th. Will April 15th ever have meaning for me anymore now that I know the power of Form 4868?
There's more, but it's time for sleep. A sleep that this list has made me feel calmer about entering. Thanks for indulging me. And if you feel you've heard just enough about the aforementioned and there's no need for me to write further about them, then please say that too.
