My three-year-old niece kicks before she falls asleep. She kicks her way into her relaxed sleepy state. And then she's gone. And happy. I've been kicking my way into a relaxed summer state. Resisting it in some way. Not finding anything familiar or recognizable about it. This Friday,I finally recognized it and fell...into it.
3:07 pm--A sweaty bike ride downtown was marked by:

a cashier correcting OCD clerk's mistake that i was there for motorcycle license
a flaky lady
a cashier yelling at flaky lady that she better not be cheating on test
a cashier smiling at me as i folded my glasses after my test
a cashier correcting my red-inked test at lightning speed

4:50pm--a drop-off on the 14th floor of a 16-floor building was marked by:
a visit afterwards with a very stoned and mumbling cashier at Corner Bakery
6:20pm--a well-known group bike ride starting in Daley Plaza was marked by:
interesting CPD-issue bike shorts worn by our po-po escorts
a mix of positive and negative horn-blaring, mostly positive
a mix of good and bad fashion
a test of how slow you can go and still stay on bike
west side houses, with people hanging off porches
a text message while riding
7:45pm--a visit with a friend was marked by:
a jumpy dog
a Boddington's in my backpack
a garden with thai basil
a thrown out back riding a bicycle in front of me to lead me towards my hamburger dream

9:30pm--a ride back north was marked by:
signs of joint-is-jumpin along California Ave.
