I've gotten used to Scott Hamilton's cheesy ways and the generally vapid nature of figure skating commentary. But Sandra Bezic I can't take any more. She's in the booth at the Olympics with Hamilton and old-timer Dick Button. Yes, Button's overly nostalgic and maybe says stupid things and doesn't understand the sport in the 21st Century as well as Sandra. But come on! Is it really necessary to contradict everything he says and talk to him in such a condescending tone? I'm hoping for an attititudinal shift before the Women's Figure Skating competition. And so I decided to take action.
I went to the NBC website to a section called: Talk to Chuck (it's sponsored by Charles Schwab). Here you can ask your favorite Olympic analyst a question. The questions up there now are: "Do you consider Emily Hughes a serious medal contender?" And "At what age should I start my daughter if she wants to figure skate?" So I think it's a long shot that they'll answer my question, but I'm giving it a try:
Sandra,
What do you have against Dick Button? Why are you always picking at him?
Maggie, Chicago, IL
And even if she doesn't answer my question, maybe she'll feel somewhat remorseful and bring Dick 5 mini-scones in the booth tonight.
5 mini-scones? Wow, that's some serious remorse.
